Health Sciences South Carolina (HSSC) is an inclusive public-private organization that brings together research universities, health systems, and other partners to further clinical research, population health, quality, and data exchange initiatives. Founded in 2004, the collaborative includes six of the state’s largest healthcare systems (Palmetto Health, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, AnMed Health, McLeod Health, Self Regional Healthcare, and Greenville Health System) and the state’s three research universities (Clemson University, the Medical University of South Carolina, and the University of South Carolina).

The President, Health Sciences South Carolina, will develop further, facilitate, oversee, and participate in a statewide research enterprise leading initiatives that improve care. This includes the Carolina eHealth Alliance HIE (CeHA), the South Carolina Surgical Quality Collaborative (SC SQC), one of the largest Clinical Data Warehouses used for applied research in the country, an innovative eIRB program, and the Carolinas Collaborative that serves as a platform to bring together research institutions and healthcare providers to develop innovations through advanced healthcare analytics and data access. In addition to leading the vision and implementation of the aforementioned initiatives, the President will lead the process for securing extramural funding and expanding the services provided to member institutions such that HSSC continues to achieve national recognition as a medical research enterprise.

Candidates for the President of Health Sciences South Carolina can come from a variety of backgrounds, but must possess exceptional leadership skills with a preference for healthcare, research or technology. An undergraduate degree and graduate degree are required and a preference exists for an M.D., Ph.D or MBA. A commitment to improving the health status of the citizens of South Carolina through continued applied research and innovations using healthcare technology is essential.
